Heel Straps for Conductive Tile Floors
Static sensitive components can be damaged by being handled while you are not properly grounded. Anti-static heel straps can be used together with special conductive floor tile (not included) as part of a comprehensive anti-static program.
Anti-static heel straps allow freedom of movement without the need of a wrist strap ground cord being leashed to a bench. For effective anti-static protection, two heel straps are recommended. One heel strap should be worn on each foot to ensure a continuous ground while walking. Velcro strips pulled over the top of the shoe secure the heel strap in place. Ideally, the nylon ribbon (with conductive fibers) should be tucked into the sock to make contact with skin, or at a minimum tucked into the shoe. This provides the static carried on the body with a path to ground.
For work areas without anti-static (conductive) floor tile, anti-static wrist straps with ground cords are the alternative solution.
